June 1, 2022, Oakland, CA: Bryan Schwartz Law, P.C. is pleased to announce that Aminah Shakoor has joined the firm as a Summer Associate.

Aminah is a recipient of the Employee Justice Summer Clerkship for 2022, from the Foundation for Advocacy Inclusion & Resources (FAIR). Aminah has started her third year as a J.D. candidate at the University of California, Davis, School of Law at King Hall. She serves as the president of the Middle Eastern North African South Asian Law Student Association (MENASA-LSA). She is a chair member of King Hall’s Diversity Inclusion and Equity Committee, where she assisted in the inception of the first mental health support group at King Hall. Aminah was also an editor for Social Justice Law Review during her first year of law school.

During her spring semester of 2022, Aminah worked as a legal extern for Legal Aid at Work’s Work and Family program, advocating for policy change and helping to provide free legal services for individuals in low-income jobs.

In the summer of 2021, Aminah clerked for Judge Shama Mesiwala, the first South Asian American woman appointed to the Sacramento Superior Court, and co-founder of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA). Aminah assisted in planning the 2021 SABA Annual Banquet. As a South Asian American herself, this experience strengthened Aminah’s motivation to advocate for South Asian American women’s representation in the legal field, as well as for other underrepresented minorities in the field.

Aminah received a Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies at Arizona State University. During her undergraduate career, Aminah worked with local women’s shelters, where she helped victims of domestic violence receive legal aid. She was also the Managing Editor for The State Press, at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. In 2018, She worked with the U.S. Department of State to advocate for women’s representation in political groups in Pakistan.

Attorney Bryan Schwartz opened the practice in January 2009.
