PRESS RELEASE

Bryan Schwartz Law, P.C. Hires Nisha Giridhar as Summer Associate at the Oakland-Based Civil Rights, Employment Law Firm

May 30, 2017 Oakland – Bryan Schwartz Law, P.C. welcomes Nisha Giridhar as a Summer Associate. She joins the firm after completing her second year at the University of California Berkeley, School of Law. Giridhar is a recipient of the 2017 Employee Justice Fellowship from the Foundation for Advocacy Inclusion & Resources (FAIR).

Giridhar discovered her passion in employment law after working on gender discrimination and pregnancy accommodation cases at the ACLU Women’s Rights Project in New York. She is a volunteer advocate and coordinator for the Post-Conviction Advocacy Project, representing individuals with indeterminate life sentences at their parole hearings. She is currently working on a state habeas petition to appeal a three-year parole denial. During law school, Giridhar participated in the International Human Rights Law Clinic where she interviewed family survivors of unsolved homicides in Oakland to understand their needs and priorities. Giridhar is the Outreach and Inclusion Chair for Berkeley Law’s Queer Caucus and is also involved in the Women of Color Collective and Coalition for Diversity. She earned the Prosser Award (second best in class) in both Criminal Law and Constitutional Law.

Giridhar graduated from New York University in 2012 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in International Relations. She was a Fulbright Student Scholar in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (2012-13), where she spent a year researching the effects of land tenure policy on urban agriculture investments through a gender lens. Prior to her legal studies, she was a Research Associate at the Center for Effective Global Action in Berkeley, CA, where she used the most recent economics research to develop evidence-based policy recommendations for government officials in the United States, South Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Upon graduation from law school in 2018, Giridhar will clerk for the Honorable Leslie Abrams of the Middle District of Georgia. Judge Abrams is the first Black woman Article III judge in Georgia. After her clerkship, Giridhar plans to pursue a career in employment law in the Bay Area.

Since 2009, Bryan Schwartz Law, P.C. has dedicated itself to continuing the struggle for civil rights and equality of employment opportunity, and helping Americans from every background to achieve their highest career potential. The firm focuses on individual, class, and collective actions involving discrimination and retaliation, harassment, denied disability accommodations, whistleblower reprisal, wage and hour violations, federal employees’ rights, and severance negotiations.
